Performance Characterization in NetWare and Windows NT Networks Using Protocol Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes protocol simulation and its application in performance modeling and analysis. Windows NT and NetWare subnets of the School of Engineering at Widener University were considered as the problem domain. The protocol stacks analyzed include IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, NetBEUI and AppleTalk. Analysis was conducted on 1.2 GB of data gathered daily over a period of two months by a network monitor. Over 30 traffic models have been built for these protocols. Identification of different types of protocol traffic in association with source and destination was effected through customized packet filtering. Data thus obtained were transferred to a spreadsheet. Frequency histograms were created using a random sampling technique from data files obtained. The traffic models built, were statistically verified using various goodness-of-fit tests. Application sources were scheduled by iteration time or by received messages, and sessions were simulated based on observed traffic. Original network predictions made have been verified by both the simulation output and empirical observations.

متن کاملFrame structure for Mobile multi-hop relay (MMR) WiMAX networks
Mobile Multi-hop Relay (MMR) WiMAX network uses Relay stations (RSs) to extend the cell coverage, and enhances the link quality and the throughput. In MMR WiMAX networks, the number of hops between the Subscriber stations (SSs) and the Base station (BS) is allowed to be more than two hops when Non transparent RS (NT-RS) is used. However, this requires modification to the frame structure of NT-R...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
